Transport and logistics service provider Schuon has committed itself to greater sustainability. According to managing director Alexander Schuon, the Bear-Cut fits perfectly with the company’s sustainability strategy and the investment will pay for itself in no time. The freight forwarder’s workshop team is also delighted with the reduction in workload and time savings.
The Schuon freight forwarding company uses numerous means to minimise the environmental and climate impact of its business activities. For example, it uses long trucks and low-CO2 synthetic or biofuels such as HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) and bio-LNG (liquefied natural gas). Fully electric, locally emission-free trucks are also already part of the fleet. ‘As a transport and logistics service provider, we bear a high degree of responsibility for preserving our environment. Schuon stands for sustainability, which is why we are continuously optimising eco-efficiency in all our processes,’ explains Alexander Schuon, managing director of the company based in Haiterbach in the northern Black Forest. The Bear-Cut from Bear-Machines, the first semi-automatic system for re-profiling commercial vehicle tyres, is now also contributing to greater sustainability.
Regrooving extends the service life of bus, lorry and trailer tyres by up to 25 per cent. This means that one in four newly manufactured tyres can be saved. Less valuable raw materials are consumed and the CO2 emissions that would be generated during new production are avoided. In conjunction with retreading, regrooving is part of the four-life concept of new tyres, regrooving, retreading and regrooving again. Regrooving therefore represents a major step towards a particularly sustainable circular economy. In addition, lorries with regrooved tyres save fuel because they have particularly low rolling resistance.
‘We have been regrooving the tyres on our vehicles for a long time, but in the past we did it by hand. This was strenuous work for our service staff, which also took a lot of time and was therefore unpopular,’ explains Alexander Schuon. At the partner trade fair of the ELVIS freight network, of which we are a member, we saw a live demonstration of the system. The advantages of the machine convinced me. It allows us to reduce the workload on our employees, save significant costs and optimise the sustainability of our fleet at the same time. In addition, the quality of the machine recutting is extremely high,‘ reports the company boss. ’The Bear-Cut is therefore a perfect fit for our sustainability strategy,“ he says.
But the investment must also pay off. The longer service life of the tyres saves costs. In the first few weeks after delivery, the workshop staff regrooved 145 tyres. The Schuon fleet comprises a total of 250 company-owned vehicles and a correspondingly high total volume of regroovable tyres. ‘We are convinced that the machine will pay for itself in the foreseeable future,’ explains Alexander Schuon. He expects a return on investment after three years.
The transport and logistics service provider’s employees are also enthusiastic and say it makes their work much easier. According to them, Bear-Cut saves a lot of time and energy. Whereas they used to feel exhausted after recutting, they now have energy for other tasks.
What’s more, according to the managing director, Bear-Cut is very reliable. ‘There have been no failures so far, Bear-Machines provides reliable functional updates and the training was very good,’ he reports, also praising the system’s excellent and self-explanatory usability. ‘In short, Bear-Machines‘ service is fast, flexible and good,’ sums up Alexander Schuon. He recommends the Bear-Cut to all his colleagues without reservation.
Bear-Machines is the official system supplier for the ELVIS freight network. All members of the cooperative therefore benefit from special conditions.
In cooperation with HV LeasePartner, Bear-Machines also offers the most common financing options such as operating leases, finance leases, hire purchase and credit, enabling all companies to procure Bear-Cut in line with their respective economic situation.
Bear-Machines is a manufacturer of machines for the semi-automatic, precise, fast and convenient re-profiling of truck, trailer and bus tyres. With Bear-Cut, Bear-Machines contributes to saving valuable raw materials and treating the environment responsibly. In addition, Bear-Machines‘ technology enables all fleet operators to increase tyre mileage by up to 25 per cent, optimise tractor fuel consumption and thus significantly reduce vehicle operating costs. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has awarded Bear-Cut the 2024 Federal Prize for outstanding innovative achievements in the skilled trades. In addition, Bear-Machines has received the Innovation Prize for Skilled Trades from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is the winner of the Münsterland Innovation Prize and the Green Vector Award 2024.
