On Tuesday evening (11 June), innovations from companies in the Münsterland region were honoured with the Münsterland Innovation Award in five categories at the maakwi Campus in Heek in front of around 300 guests. A total of 95 applications were received from across the Münsterland region.
‘Once again, the Innovation Award shows how much inventive spirit there is in the region,’ said Klaus Ehling, CEO of Münsterland e.V. ‘This year, it is also particularly clear that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand in the Münsterland region. The award-winning innovations hold all kinds of potential for the future.’
Münsterland e.V. awards the Münsterland Innovation Prize every two years together with the competition’s sponsors: the savings banks in the Münsterland region, Provinzial Versicherung AG, Westenergie AG and Stadtwerke Münster GmbH. Under the motto ‘Progress. Innovative. Design. The Münsterland region thinks ahead.’ 15 companies were nominated this year in the categories “Economy”, ‘Science meets Economy’, ‘Start-up’, ‘Small and Smart’ and ‘Digital Business Models’.
Bear-Machines GmbH from Heek was successful in the ‘Small and Smart’ category with its ‘Bear-Cut’ product. To ensure that commercial vehicle tyres last as long as possible, they are re-profiled – this means that their rubber is recut by hand to restore the tread depth. This increases the service life of the tyres by 25 per cent and also reduces fuel consumption. ‘Bear-Cut’ is the first semi-automatic tyre recutting machine on the market. “It cleverly combines mechanics, sensor technology and software, eliminating the need for tedious manual work. Bear-Machines is thus taking state-of-the-art technology to a whole new level. The jury praised the machine as an outstanding innovation, also in view of its enormous contribution to sustainability,” said Heinrich-Georg Krumme, Chairman of the Board of Sparkasse Westmünsterland for the Sparkasse banks in the Münsterland region, in his laudatory speech.
